To start to release them. To start to move with them. My intention to work with Abby was to start to move, feel and release trapped emotions through the use of dance. To also remember that my body had the ability and power to guide me through this healing process. So I too can help others do this. So I could develop a better understanding of me and my experiences to create my own practice to share. Working with Abby has absolutely changed my life in the most beautiful ways….ways that I didn’t even know were possible. I had a lifetime of trapped emotions in my body, that up until the time of working with Abby, had no idea how to even begin processing. There are very few people in this world who can change the entire course of someone’s life just by showing up with unconditional love—and Abby is one of them. I met Abby during a deeply traumatic chapter of my life, at a time when I felt quiet, small, and overwhelmed by the weight of everything I’d been through. I wasn’t easy to reach back then—full of big emotions, passion, and noise that the world often told me was “too much.” But Abby never saw me that way. She welcomed all of me—loud, soft, angry, joyful, confused—with pure compassion and no judgment. Through her dance studio in Gympie, she created a space that didn’t just teach movement—it offered healing. With every step, every laugh, every still moment, Abby gently taught me how to stop fighting against myself and instead move with the waves of emotion, no matter how stormy. She gave me permission to dance, to feel, to play, to be silly, and most importantly, to be me. The courage Abby has shown in her own life—rising from incredibly dark experiences to reclaim her body, voice, power, and presence—is awe-inspiring. In the decade I’ve known her, she has only become more radiant in her truth, and watching her stand tall in herself encouraged me to do the same. Abby helped me remember the parts of me I thought were gone: my innocence, my confidence, my sass, my joy. She reminded me that I am allowed to take up space and to exist fully, boldly, authentically. The gift she gave me was not just dance. It was wholeness. Validation. The kind of love that doesn’t try to fix you—it just holds you while you find your way back to yourself. She doesn’t just teach. She sees people. She loves them through their growth.
